So I just checked my Alexa ranking. I had a little boost, up from 4,426,952 to 3,578,624, which is what by badge is now claiming. Right now, the toolbar is boasting an impressive 792,514. That’s up 3.6 Million in just a couple of weeks. I can’t say for certain what any one particular change was, but here is what I did.
I changed the site theme. Made it more aesthetically pleasing. It used to be a gawdawful orange, now, as you can see, it’s more crisp and it just looks better. I think that more people who have never been here could tell, through the universal ether, that the site is beautiful and they should come visit.
I added BlogRush. People from all over the world who also have BlogRush now see headlines from my site. It’s a great way to syndicate your site without having everyone in the world add your rss feed.
I joined MyBlogLog. I think the reason this works is that everyone else who is a MyBlogLog member gets to see their picture. This appeals to the least and most egotistical part of everyone. “I was here.” It’s like permissible graffiti. Not only was Kilroy here, but you were too. If you haven’t done so, join now.
MyBlogLog also has the benefit of creating a path back to the viewer’s sites. I like seeing who has visited my site and seeing who has visited them. You never know where it will lead you. It’s surfing again, with a higher level of fun.
I have also set my URL on sites to bounce through the Alexa redirector. When MyBlogLog or BlogRush clicks come through, they go through http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?blowitoutyourpiehole.com. That way, if someone doesn’t have the toolbar, Alexa still knows about the site visit. I have also asked Alexa to update the site thumbnail, as they have a REALLY, REALLY old picture there.
I have joined the Blogger Network and burned my RSS feed. But I think the thing that has really jumped me up was that I made a commitment to post at least 4-times a week, like it says at the top. I also posted about the Wooz, so people who don’t know what it is have another source for the waste of space that was the Wooz.
